The first SMC conference started at IRCAM in Paris, in 2004 as a Joint Conference with JIM (Journees Informatiques Musicales), with the support of AFIM, DEGEM and AIMI, and since then has been organized in different European countries as France, Greece, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Denmark, Sweden and so on. Since 2008, the conference has been enriched by the organized summer academy of the European SMC network. The central focus of its research field is sound and music computing which approaches the wholesound and music communication chain from a multidisciplinary point of view. Through a combination of scientific, technological and artistic methodologies it aims at understanding, modeling and generating sound and music through computational approaches.
